Seven & a Half (Sette e mezzo) is a fast, addictive Italian card game in the same family as Blackjack. Number cards are worth their face value, face cards are worth half a point, and your goal is to get as close to seven and a half as possible β without going over.
One player takes the role of banker while everyone else bets against them. Rounds are short and the swings are dramatic, which makes it perfect filler between bigger games or a whole evening on its own.
How to play
Cards 1β7 are worth their number; the King, Queen and Jack are worth half a point each.
The King of Coins (or a designated wild) acts as a flexible card that can stand in for any value.
Each player is dealt one card to start, then chooses to 'hit' for another card or 'stand'.
Your aim is to reach a total as close to 7Β½ as you can. Go over and you bust, losing your bet immediately.
Once all players have finished, the banker draws and tries to beat the table.
Hit exactly 7Β½ and you win outright; the banker pays winners and collects from anyone who busts or scores lower.
Tips & strategy
Half-point face cards are gold β at 6 or 6Β½ a face card nudges you up without much bust risk.
Watch your total against the banker's exposed card before deciding to hit; their visible strength should set your appetite for risk.
Standing on 7 is often correct β the only safe improvement is a face card, and the downside of busting is total.
As banker, remember you act last with full information; play tight and let bold players bust themselves.
Frequently asked questions
How is Seven & a Half different from Blackjack?
The target is 7Β½ instead of 21, face cards are worth half a point, and there's a rotating banker the rest of the table bets against. Rounds are much faster.
What happens if I tie with the banker?
House rules vary, but in this version a tie typically favours the banker, so push for a clear win when you can.
Can I play with a phone each?
Yes. Play locally by passing one device around, or start an online room and deal to everyone's own phone.
